Red Wine Drinkers Are In a Class All Their Own: Are You Among Them?

It’s National Red Wine Day, and since over half of Americans (52%) enjoy a glass of wine, we’ve rounded up the data that sets red wine drinkers apart from the rest.

Notably, among wine drinkers, red wine is the most popular option, with 48% of Americans preferring a red to any other choice. Men are more likely to favor red wine than women, as are younger adults. But of course, the data dives deeper.

Spending: Those who prefer red wine are the most likely of any wine drinkers to say they have ‘some’ difficulty controlling their spending. And when they do splurge, nearly a quarter (24%) like to do so on a clothing shopping spree.

Exercise: Thirty-four percent of red wine drinkers say they have home gym equipment, but need to buy new options. Proximity to exercise equipment could be part of why 25% of red wine drinkers describe themselves as ‘very healthy.’

Tariffs: Those savoring a merlot are also the most likely to say they are ‘very’ concerned over the tariffs. Already, 67% of red wine drinkers say they are ‘buying less’ due to increased prices.

Streaming: Nearly 2 out of every 3 red wine drinker uses and likes Netflix, a percentage that outpaces rosé drinkers–the second-largest demographic–by 21 percentage points. In terms of watch-time, red wine drinkers are the most likely to spend 31 to 60 minutes streaming videos per day–just enough time to catch up on an episode or two.

When it comes to wine, what you choose to sip says a lot about you! Red wine drinkers in particular stand out across the board–from streaming and spending habits to exercise plans and tariff concerns. So if you choose to raise a glass this evening, do so with the knowledge that you’re in good company.
