Going to the hair salon is a part many Americans’ routines. But hair salon etiquette and expectations can vary, with one of the biggest questions being: to wash or not wash your hair before a visit to the salon? After all, whether you choose to wash your hair or show up as-is can speak volumes about you–in and out of the chair.

And as the data show, Americans are split. Among those with an opinion, 34% ‘always’ wash their hair before a visit to the salon, 31% do it ‘sometimes’ and 35% never do. Here’s what the latest data show about those who fall into the ‘always’ category.

Bank Uncertainty: Regular pre-salon hair washers are nine percentage points more likely than non-hair washers to plan on switching banks in the next three months.

Tech Interest: The most frequent pre-salon hair-washers are three times as likely as non-washers to read technology blogs or websites every day.

Online Reviews: Those washing their hair before the salon are twice as likely as non-washers to write a positive review online.

Grocery Bag Habits: Those who show up with clean hair to the salon are 16 percentage points more likely to use reusable shopping bags ‘every chance’ they get than those who show up with unwashed hair.

Movie Buffs: Those who always wash their hair before going to the salon are more than twice as likely as non-washers to go to the movies once a month or more.

Clearly, those who wash their hair before heading to the salon are more than just fastidious about hair cleanliness, they display unique consumer behaviors in every area of their lives.
