September 22nd is the first official day of fall! This is the time of the year when the leaves start to change, the temperatures cool, and the days take on a cozier vibe. And while all of the seasons have their place, among those with a preference, fall is the most popular season by far, outpacing summer–the second-runner up–by 16 percentage points (42% vs 26%).

Given that fall is such a distinct season, it only makes sense that those who love fall also display unique characteristics throughout this time of the year–and beyond.

For the Girls: Women–often the wearers of chunky sweaters and the drinkers of pumpkin spice lattés–are 6 percentage points more likely than men to prefer fall.

A Timeless Season: Older generations love fall. There’s a 13 percentage point uptick between Millennials who love fall and Gen X-ers who love it. That love is sustained into the Baby Boomer generation as well. Similarly, grandparents are also the most likely to favor the season.

Anti-Couch Potatoes: Those who love fall are the most likely to say they don’t spend any time watching video-on-demand streaming  (e.g., Netflix or Hulu) on an average day. They’re also the most likely to say they don’t go to their local library. Perhaps their preferred fall activities may not be on the couch, after all.

Going Paperless: Those who prefer fall are more likely than those who prefer spring and winter to do 75% or more of their banking online.

Sleep Optional: When it comes to a good night’s sleep, people who like fall are in a tough spot. While this demographic is the most likely to get 8-10 hours of sleep per night, 39% of fall fans rank themselves ‘more’ tired than usual, a higher percentage than fans of spring and summer.

Fans of fall are just about to hit their stride. And as they do, rest assured that their unique preferences and behaviors will make a ripple effect as they move through their very own leaf-covered wonderland.
