On Lunar New Year, 50% of Americans Know Their Chinese Zodiac Sign

February 17th is Lunar New Year. This year is the year of the Horse, and among those who are aware of their sign, 8% report being born in this year. There’s a 50/50 split between those who are aware of their sign and those who are not. Women and Millennials are more likely to know their sign, as are those who make more than $100K. 

Of course, these demographic insights are just the beginning of what sets those who know their Chinese zodiac sign apart from those who do not. 

 

Here’s exactly what puts those aware of their zodiac sign in a class of their own:  

Tea Preferences: Those who know their Zodiac sign are eight percentage points more likely to prefer an earthy flavor profile of tea than those who do not know their Zodiac sign (19% vs 11%). Whereas those who don’t know their sign are twice as likely to prefer sweet teas than those who know their sign (36% vs 18%)

Coupon Usage: When shopping for items other than food and groceries, those aware of their zodiac sign are seven percentage points more likely to use coupons occasionally than those who do not know their sign (40% vs 33%). Meanwhile, those don’t know their Chinese zodiac sign use coupons more often–either every chance they get or whenever it’s convenient.

Ideal Breakfast: When asked what they prefer to eat for breakfast, nearly half of those who know their Zodiac sign (48%) answered eggs, compared to 35% of those who don’t know their Zodiac sign who say the same. Also, those who know their sign lead in choosing bagels, whereas those who don’t know their sign lead in picking oatmeal.

Meditation Apps: Those who know their zodiac sign are more than twice as likely to have used or plan to use mindfulness mediation apps than those who do not know their sign (20% vs 9%).  

Seaweed Fans: Those who know their zodiac sign are more than twice as likely as those who don’t know their sign to love the taste of seaweed (11% vs 5%). 

Those who know their Chinese zodiac sign are unique consumers. They’re interested in more than just astrology. From how they drink their tea, to how they shop, and how they clear their minds, those who know their Chinese zodiac sign set themselves apart in all aspects of their lives.
