Today is National Peach Day! To celebrate, we’ve taken a bite out of the CivicScience data to get a taste of what sets certain peach-eaters apart, starting with the most (potentially) controversial topic: the best way to eat a peach.

Fresh data show that the largest group (37%) believes that slicing a peach is the best way to eat it. Women are more likely than men to hold this belief, as are adults 65+. What else does slicing a peach say about you? Here are additional trends to chew on:

Local Flavor: Adults who prefer to slice their peaches are the least likely to use grocery delivery and the most likely to shop local ‘every chance’ they get–including at local grocery store chains.

Bitcoin: More than three out of every four sliced peach eaters believe that Bitcoin will be ‘niche’ in the future, which is likely related to the fact that this demographic is the least likely to trust Bitcoin.

Influenced: Those who eat their peaches sliced are the least likely to say that social media influences the food they buy, and the most likely to watch cable TV. Daytime cooking shows could be their next source of inspiration.

Travel: More than half of those (55%) who eat their peaches sliced have been overseas once or more. Sliced peach eaters are also the most likely to travel on an airplane next month.

Clearly eating a sliced peach is more than just a quirky trait, it’s an indicator of a variety of other consumer behaviors–from grocery shopping to travel–with impacts that reach far beyond a single day of peach celebration.
