March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day. And if there’s one plant that’s become essentially synonymous with the day, it’s the four-leaf clover. These natural phenomena–considered a sign of good luck–can be spotted in sunny clover patches. And as the data show, more than half of Americans have been lucky enough to stumble across one. By contrast, 36% say they’ve never found a four-leafer, and 10% aren’t quite sure.

Those who have found a four-leaf clover tend to skew male and older, as Baby Boomers are 28 percentage points more likely to have found a four-leaf clover than Gen Z. Those who make more than $100K are also 10 percentage points more likely to have spotted one than those who make less than $100K.

Of course, this demographic data is just the start of what sets four-leaf clover finders apart from the rest. Here’s the data on these lucky leaf spotters:

Group Chat Behavior: While 27% of those who have found a four-leaf clover say they are an active participant in the group chat, just 15% of those who have not found a four-leaf clover and 14% of those who are not sure say the same.

Supernatural Sightings: Four-leaf clover finders are seven percentage points more likely to say they have seen a ghost multiple times than those who have never found a four-leaf clover and 10 percentage points more likely than those who are not sure.

Self-Assessed Achievement: Nearly one-half of four-leaf clover finders (42%) have achieved their self-defined idea of success. Meanwhile, just one in four of those who have never found a four-leaf clover (25%) and fewer than one in five of those who aren’t sure (19%) say the same.

Teenage Nostalgia: Those who have found a four-leaf clover are the most likely to look back on their teenage years in a positive light, outpacing all others with the same sentiment by at least 12 percentage points.

Dating App Luck: More than one in three (34%) of four-leaf clover finders have had luck on dating apps, outpacing all others by at least 10 percentage points.

Clearly, those who find four-leaf clovers have a unique perspective on life–one that is largely engaged and positive, suggesting that these individuals may create their own luck beyond the clover patch.
