Pizza is a staple of American cuisine—but how do Americans feel about dipping it in ranch dressing? Ongoing CivicScience data show that 15% of U.S. adults with an opinion love doing so, while 26% are a ‘maybe sometimes’ and 59% firmly say ‘no.’ Younger Americans are driving the trend: 23% of Gen Z adults (18-29) and 22% of Millennials (30-44) say they love the combo, outpacing those 45 and older by at least 14 percentage points.
In which American region are you most likely to find pizza-in-ranch fans? CivicScience data show you’re most likely to come across them in the American South (16%) South (16%), West (16%), and Midwest (15%). Meanwhile, you are far less likely to come across someone who loves dipping their pizza in ranch in the Northeast region (4%).
Beyond demographics, CivicScience data reveal more preferences between those who love to dip their pizza in ranch and those who don’t:
Pizza ordering frequency: How much does pizza ordering frequency factor in? Those who live to dip their pizza in ranch are twice as likely as non-fans to order pizza for dine-in, delivery, take-out, and/or dine-in at least once a week (14% to 7%, respectively). They’re also more likely to order pizza out overall.
What matters most when dining out: Speaking of ordering out, those who live dipping pizza in ranch are also twice as likely as non-fans to say they value speed of the service when dining out. On the other hand, non-fans are 11 percentage points more likely to prefer diverse menu options.
Sriracha fandom: They may love to keep things cool by dipping their pizza slices in ranch, but those who love to dip pizza in ranch are also much more likely than non-fans to enjoy Sriracha hot sauce (58% to 40%, respectively).
Love to cook: Finally, ranch dipping fans and non-fans have notably different feelings on cooking, when they’re not ordering out. Forty-three percent of pizza in ranch dippers say they ‘love’ to cook, far outpacing non-fans who feel the same (24%). Conversely, 28% of non-dippers say they ‘don’t like’ to cook, compared to 16% among dippers.
