It’s that time of year when temperatures start to drop and layers become more than a fashion statement, but a necessity. For some, this season is a sad farewell to the tank tops and short sleeves of summer. But for others, sweater weather is when they finally feel like themselves again.

In 2025 alone 53% of adults say they look forward to sweater weather ‘very much,’ a figure that has gradually decreased since CivicScience began collecting data on the topic in 2020. Women outpace men in their love of cozying up in a sweater, as do those making less than $50K.

So what has set this layer-loving group apart for the last few years? Here’s what you need to know:

Leaving the House: Those who are looking forward to pulling out their cardigans are five percentage points more likely to report an increased desire to leave the house in the last six months.

Mindfulness: Sweater weather fans are 11 percentage points more likely to have used mindfulness meditation apps than those who do not appreciate the season.

TV and Movie Trends: Sweater weather fans are more than twice as likely as non-fans to say they ‘very closely’ follow trends in the TV and movie industry (15% vs 6%).

Fast Casual Fans: While 39% of those who enjoy sweater weather say they eat at fast casual restaurants more than once a month, just 24% of those who do not celebrate bundling up say the same.

Clearly, those who get excited for sweater weather aren’t just fans of staying warm, they’ve got a zest for life. From desiring to leave the house, to using meditation apps and staying on top of TV and film news, fans of sweater weather are tuned into their world and making the most of every season.
