With baseball season ramping up, now is the time when fans will flock to the ballpark, ready to see their teams (hopefully) claim a few home runs. Of course, no trip to the stands is complete without a snack. And fortunately, ballparks have a wide variety to offer hungry baseball enthusiasts.
Current CivicScience data show that hot dogs are Americans’ favorite ballpark snack, with 44% of respondents claiming this as their top choice (among those with an opinion). Soft pretzels and nachos rank second and third, respectively (19% and 17%), rounding out the top three ballpark favorites.
While men have an 11 percentage point lead over women in their preference for hot dogs, women outpace men in their preference for soft pretzels and nachos. Age also plays a role, as adults 44 and younger prefer soft pretzels and nachos, while those 45 and older opt for a hot dog.

However, these demographic insights are just the beginning of what distinguishes the top three ballpark snack fans. Here is what further data reveal:
At-Home Gym Equipment: Soft pretzel fans are the most likely to own or have access to at-home gym equipment, outpacing nacho and hot dog fans by at least six percentage points.
Sports Programs: Hot dog fans are the most likely to watch sports programs on TV or streaming services, outpacing soft pretzel and nacho fans who do the same by at least nine percentage points.
Vacuums: While 43% of soft pretzel fans have two or more vacuums, just 32% of nacho fans and 28% of hot dog fans say the same.
Second Screens: While 42% of hot dog fans say they put their second screens away while watching TV, just 32% of nacho fans and 28% of soft pretzel fans say the same.
Music Festival Attendance: Those who claim soft pretzels as their favorite ballpark snack are 10 percentage points more likely than those who prefer hot dogs to say they attend music and film festivals monthly or more (18% vs 8%).
Clearly, what you prefer at the ballpark doesn’t just shed light into culinary preferences, but into consumer behaviors that touch all aspects of your world.
