Here’s What Your Favorite Road Trip Vehicle Says About You

Jun 12, 2026 | 0 comments

‘Tis the season for road trips. And if the wide open road is calling your name, there’s a good chance you already know exactly how you like to make the voyage: favorite snacks, elastic waistband, and playlist at the ready. Of course, when spending an extended time getting from one location to the next, the vehicle you choose can make or break the experience.

CivicScience data show that more than two-thirds (67%) of Americans would opt for a big cruiser like an SUV, minivan, or RV on a road trip. This figure far outpaces the 28% who would travel in a nice sports car and the 8% who would opt for a motorcycle (among those with an opinion).

Those who prefer a big cruiser skew female and Millennial, while those who would opt for a nice sports car lean male and are either 18-29 years old or 65 and older.

However, this demographic data is just the start of what sets big cruiser fans apart from those who would choose a sports car or motorcycle. Here’s what the data show:

Screen Time Control: Among parents, those who prefer a big cruiser for a road trip are seven percentage points more likely to limit their kids’ screen time than those who prefer a nice sports car (52% vs 45%).

Upscale Restaurants: Those who would opt for a motorcycle on a road trip are 10 percentage points more likely to eat at upscale restaurants on at least a monthly basis than those who enjoy a big cruiser (16% vs 6).

Regular Home Cleaning:  While 19% of those who prefer a nice car for their road trips say they deep clean their home bimonthly, just 10 percent of those who like a big cruiser say the same.

Public Transportation: Fans of a motorcycle on a road trip are more than four times as likely to use public transportation weekly as fans of a big cruiser.

Tech Know-How: While 28% of those who enjoy a big cruiser for their road trips do not consider themselves to be technologically savvy, just 16% of those who prefer a motorcycle voyage say the same.

So as you pack your bags for a road trip this summer, remember that how you choose to travel not only speaks to your tendencies on the road, but to a variety of other consumer intentions, out from behind the wheel.
